THE CATFLAP CHINWAG WITH…

Ian Holloway

Big Brother, Justin Timberlake, Winston Churchill; Plymouth manager Ian Holloway will talk about anything. Just don’t call him mad, OK

So how was it writing your new book?

It was absolute living hell. You have to drag up all your memories. Hopefully people will now know the real me instead of picking up on odd quirky comments somewhere and thinking I’m mad.

Does it annoy you when people just pick out the soundbites?

It’s better being out there than not being talked about. But there is more to me than just someone who mucks about all the time. I can’t be a football manager and have the responsibility that brings if I’m just a complete lunatic can I?

Do you know you have your own section in an online quotation page alongside Winston Churchill and Muhammad Ali?

I’m proud of that then. We’re all about communication us human beings aren’t we? That’s what sets us aside from all the other animals on this planet and if you can master that and make people follow you and believe in what you’re saying like Winston Churchill did then brilliant. I’ve got his quote on my mug at home, “success is moving from one failure to another, without losing enthusiasm” - what a fantastic thing to say that is! Did people think he was mad or what? And another one “never in the history of mankind has so much been owed by so many to so few”. I mean that’s just genius.
