THE CATFLAP CHINWAG WITH...

Mathew horne

Do you think he's the man to lead Spurs into a bright new era?

I think he'll do some good, but I'm not sure he's the man to take us into the Champions League. I think he'll certainly turn things around for us this season. He's got to!

Does it bother you that he's had 11 clubs in 14 years as a manager?

Yeah, of course. But then, at the same time, you have to go through that many girls to find the right one, don't you?

How did you feel about Martin Jol? Do you think he was treated shabbily?

Yeah, I do, I think he was treated really badly. Unfortunately the press interest exacerbated the situation, to the point where there was no coming back from it, there was no way he could stay. People were on top of him from very early on in the poor run, which just made the poor run longer and worse, to the point where he had to go. Big shame, really. Big shame.

Have Spurs got any chance of hanging on to Dmitar Berbatov?

I doubt it. I think if we can keep him past January, that would be amazing. But I very much doubt he'll stay beyond the summer.

Do you get recognised at Spurs?

Yeah, quite a lot, actually. I think it's been made clear throughout my career that I'm a Tottenham fan, and I've done various football shows, and I think if you know who I am then you know that I'm a Tottenham fan. So yeah, people are sort of aware of me at White Hart Lane.

Have you met any of the players?

Yeah I have, I've met quite a few of them. I've become quite friendly with Michael Dawson especially. That's been good for away tickets. And I've met Robbie Keane and Dmitar, and I've met Clive Allen as well, who's the reserve team coach, who's a hero of mine from when I was a kid. So it's been good being on the telly, for that reason.
