THE CATFLAP CHINWAG WITH…

TIM LOVEJOY

After a tumultuous few weeks at Stamford Bridge, there was only one man to speak to about the plight of Chelsea FC. And no, it’s wasn’t David Mellor…

Jose Mourinho was the heart and soul of Chelsea Football Club. Discuss.

Well, no one is bigger than the club but Jose came close. To be honest though I’m getting used to it. We’ve lost Gullit who I loved, we lost Vialli who I loved and we lost Ranieri who I didn’t love so we’ve had managers come and go quite regularly. The problem is that it always seems to be a decision taken up above and not based on the current performance of the team. Now, though, I feel really depressed and it’s a really strange feeling. For two or three seasons we were the best team in the league and now there’s this sense that we might become an also-ran team again and not challenging for the title any more. In other words, we might have turned ourselves into Tottenham.

Did you see it coming?

It was really strange because I was at the Champions League game against Rosenborg and a friend of mine said that we had to be really careful because Jose Mourinho has got a very good reputation in football and if anything threatens that, he’ll leave. Sure enough, two days later he was gone.
