On this day 18 July
Ade Bad Buyi..
Leicester sign big today in 2000...
Poor Ade Akinbiyi, he didn't half have a tough time of it at one point. Once labelled as "The Premier League's Worst Striker" by those kind souls at The Sun, it's fair to say Adeola Peter Oluwatoyin Akinbiyi would come to regret the move he made today in 2000, when he signed for Peter Taylor's Leicester City.
Signed for £5.5m to replace the departin Emile Heskey, Akinbiyi had spent only one season at Wolves, scoring a whopping 16 goals. Clearly those kind of stats were to the new Foxes boss' liking, though the fact he shelled out £1.5m on Trevor Benjamin on the same day says a lot. Anyway, back to old Ade, who scored only a handful of times during the season in which Leicester were relegated, one of which was a scrappy effort against Sunderland, prompting a celebration that could have been deemed slightly OTT. Not by us though, as he's a big fella...
Way back in the year 64 today, and Emperor Nero was proving just as popular as Leicester's hapless forward, as he watched as Rome burned. After a blaze broke out in the merchant area of the great city, Nero apparently played his lyre and sang from a safe distance. Which is nice.
And we say "ey up lad, have a reet good burthda" as they say somewhere up North to foxy French newscaster (Google it) Mélissa Theuriau (30), shiny-headed actor, apparently, Vin Diesel (41),Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo(51), and beardy Virgin Sir Richard Branson (58).
