England see off their dirty foes...

Today in 1966 saw quarter-finals day at the World Cup being held in England. In a scoreline that looks like something from a schoolyard, Portugal defeated surprise quarter-finalists Korea 5-3, while at Sunderland's Roker Park, the USSR beat Hungary 2-1. Future finalists West Germany romped to a 4-0 win over Uruguay, while the real big one was at Wembley, where Alf Ramsey's England side faced Argentina in front of 90,000 people.

Despite losing their best striker to injury, Jimmy Greaves, it would be his replacement who would score the winner and subsequently go on to be an England great. But this match would not be remembered for Geoff Hurst's goal, but for the manner in which the Argentina played, seeing captain Antonio Rattin to be sent off, and prompting Ramsey to refuse to allow his players to swap shirts at the end of the game. And that's why he's a Sir...

Meanwhile, in 1986 it was joy unconfined as Prince Andrew tied the knot with Sarah Ferguson at Westminster Abbey, with an estimated television audience of 500million reveling in the occasion. Ten years later they divorced.

It’s selamat hari jadi! as they say in Macedonia to actor Woody Harrelson (47), the smoking rock poodle that is Slash (43) and Daniel Radcliffe aka Harry Potter, who’ll no doubt be getting shedded on WKD now that he’s (19)
